5 hours later.

So, this is what your supposed to look like after an afternoon of boat building......(happy, but dirty)

Here is a new 22'' fairing board I made. I was using spray glue to hold the sandpaper on to my old ones, I would have to heat up the paper with a heat gun to get the glue to release, then glue another piece on. It was hot, stinky, sticky, and a complete pain in the ass. With this one I just loosen the screws, take out the old piece of paper, and stick a new piece in, tighten it down, and get back to it. Tomorrows another compound application day, so back to sticky instead of dusty.

Sticky icky

Just a note to anyone who might someday be interested in building their own boat: Take a class in cake decorating first......... So I spent the evening out in the shop putting goo on the mould, so more of that tomorrow, then back to sanding again. I bought some Tyvec overalls to work in, so now I wont get goo all over my clothes, and it will cut down on the amount of dust I wear into the house.

Dusty.....

I had a wonderful sanding session today, 4 hours. It was really nice outside, so I opened the garage door and worked A'natural. Kept the air pretty dust free, but I still ended up looking like an abominable snowman. Hope to get some more compound on tomorrow evening and start again.

Fair Diem......

I have started the process of fairing the mould (sanding fairing compound is the dustiest job in the world.) As you can see in the picture, I have done a lot of work on the bottom, but still have some low spots to fill. Its looking so nice I'm kicking around the idea of fiber glassing this set of forms so that I can get more pulls off them.

Let the sticky mess begin.

Started my day by mounting the last little frame rails for the decking on the front of the mould and sanding the nose piece to match the bow shape.

Then I mounted the decking.

Then this afternoon I pulled the staples and slathered the mould with a ton of epoxy/qcells fairing compound. Now the really really fun part, sanding most of it back off and then doing it again.

Ready, set............set.

So, Today is the first chance I had to use bog and the oven in anger. The bow is on and "getting baked" so balloon goo can happen pretty much any time now. Got to go put a wax on my board, 27 inches in 24 hours and I'm going to have to get some sleep to be at my best.

Nose Job.....

I got the nose rough shaped and lined up, going to bog it on this weekend.

Still a lot of shaping to do, but its going to work out sweet.

I also got the stern vac deck mounted, I can go to bed a happy man.

Im a bow/stern man......

I was able to get some long put off bits done today. My buddy Cliff cut out my solid chunk of rock maple bow piece on the big saw today, two facing 9deg angles on a block only 1 3/8'' wide, that's woodskilz..... I used a chunk of hardwood for the bow so the little pointy end wouldn't get messed up by the vacuum pressure, MDF could have easily blown out. And then I also built the little vac shelf for the stern, so I'm happy I had a very productive day.

So I have all the sculpting markers all scrolled out , I'll spend some time shaping it tomorrow on the the disk sander, then I'm going to rasp/fair it into final shape once its on the mould,

This is where its going to live.....

And here is where I'm mounting the vac shelf.....Hope to get to all that tomorrow evening.

Bling...........

Can I get a whoop whoop? So I went out to do some mould sanding in preparation for my fairing compound party, and I find that all the duck tape that was holding the oven together and keeping it sealed is falling off because of the cold temps and dusty conditions. So instead of getting any sanding done I got out the aluminum foil and spray glue and made a big sticky mess. The Bright side is that now the oven 1. looks super fresh 2. can't fall apart anymore because that spray glue is holding everything together and in place 3. is even more insulated and air tight than before. Maybe I'll get back to sanding tomorrow.

Ovens ready

So here is a short video I made about the cure oven, I hope to make many more instructional/informative movies as the build process continues. (This is my first attempt at this, so please don't laugh to hard, I hope to get better at it/more comfortable on camera as I make more of them.)

Bun in the ..........

Picked up a couple more goodies for the curebox today, a thermometer with an external lead to stick inside the oven, and a cheapo box fan to aid in circulation, so there are no hotspots.

My daughter Melody and I spent the evening out in the garage cutting foam, The whole thing is held together by ducktape and #2 pencils. Still have to get a couple of things, First off a couple sheets of pink foam to insulate the floor, and a Halogen work light to quickly get the oven up to temp. ( I plan to take the Halogen out of line as soon as the temp is up and let the 100watt lights do the rest of the work, for fire safety reasons).

And so here's where its at, should be ready to cook soon.
