Wait, there's more.....

Now that I'm back up to speed with Rhino and in a drawing mood, I've decided to start spitting out the changes/improvements that have been kicking around in my head. Change number one, the original rack (above), the plan was to have this adjust from 180cm out to 2.5m, But I think it was a hair brained pet idea that really wouldn't prove to be worth the trouble.

Here is the NON-adjustable rack that will be going on the boat. Much simpler and lighter than the original adjustable design. It's fixed at 2m wide, that's 62cm (about 2 feet ) to the gunnel, (slightly more than a Musto skiff), not to close but definitely a doable step distance. I beefed up the tubing a little bit as well (63.6mmod foot tubes, 45mmod stump, 57.6mmod side struts, and35.6mmod stump compression struts, all 1.8mm wall). There is less of it so it should save some on weight. I think its a better design. Feel free to tell me what you think of the changes. (Not to be a spoiler, but coming soon: a reverse transom and a new cooler gantry).

You are not following the good Lord's advice - you keep on reducing variables and simplifying.

How do you expect this thing to foil if you make it simple and reliable?

Reducing weight and increasing strength is also a bad idea. How about adding a battery-driven canting keel and at least a remote control joystick on the end of each tiller extension?

You know, after years of R&D work, it just seems right to "KISS" everything.

(Secretly I want an Electronic MOTO grip controller on my tiller extension)

what is a gantry?

A Gantry is an structure either solid or made from tubing that effectively extends the working length of the hull without much added weight or drag surface. On a hydrofoil it is used to extend the distance between the foils to create a larger footprint and add to stability.

Great project!!! I've been silently watching on the sidelines as my weight creeps up beyond foiler moth range... Do you have a guess as to what the boat will weigh all up rigged ready to sail? Will be important since launching requires pretty much carrying the whole thing on your shoulder.

Thanks for the interest, my target weight is 40-45kg all up (88-99lb). I'm thinking of slightly retractable foils to make launching easier, but if it creates to much of a hassle I'll figure out some other way to launch. Mostly I plan to just throw it in the water off the dock. Beach launching may be more problematic, but I'm sure it will get worked out somehow. Where do you live?

40-45Kg should still be manageable then with perhaps minimal support from a second person. I am currently living in Japan and launch from a beach hence my question. Not sure how the dock thing will work but I will need to figure this out at some point. Keep it up! You're doing a great job and inspire a whole lot of us.

Thanks for the encouraging words, There are only two weekends left in the ski season, so after that I can start spending weekends in the shop and get going at full speed again.
